Summary

Alice Stern isn't ready to turn forty。 She thought she'd have more time to figure it all out。 Above all, she thought she'd have more time with her father, Leonard - but he's lying in a hospital bed and Alice isn't sure if she'll hear his voice again。

When she falls asleep outside their old apartment on the night before her birthday, she's surprised to be greeted the next morning by a much younger Leonard, with a sixteenth birthday card for a teenage Alice who, far from clinging to her youth, is hurtling towards adulthood 。 。 。

Alice soon discovers how she got back here, to 1996 and her sixteenth birthday, and realises she can keep on coming, whenever she chooses。

But faced each time with different versions of her life, and the consequences of her decisions, it's on her not to lose sight of what she wants most 。 。 。

Native New Yorker, contemporary to the author。 My BFF and I are in similarly different places in our lives; I lost my father some years ago。I wanted not to like this novel as much as I did, but it felt like a story I could have lived for so many reasons。 I loved it。

Loved it。 Maybe because I'm a sucker for time travel, or maybe because I can relate to the main character so well right now。 But, I just devoured this book。 There aren't many novels or content in general that address aging parents and how that affects a person as they age themself。 This book did that well, with a creative twist。 I felt connected to the characters and thoroughly enjoyed the story overall。 It's an easy read that packs a punch。 Loved it。 Maybe because I'm a sucker for time travel, or maybe because I can relate to the main character so well right now。 But, I just devoured this book。 There aren't many novels or content in general that address aging parents and how that affects a person as they age themself。 This book did that well, with a creative twist。 I felt connected to the characters and thoroughly enjoyed the story overall。 It's an easy read that packs a punch。 。。。more

This was a good book。 I do think there are some things that could've been better and I wish the ending was a little longer。 Overall, it was a good concept that had both unexpected and predictable elements to it。 This was a good book。 I do think there are some things that could've been better and I wish the ending was a little longer。 Overall, it was a good concept that had both unexpected and predictable elements to it。 。。。more

A nice little book。I kind of skimmed through the second half because i had just read another book about time travel/alternate life timelines, etc。It narrowly misses falling into the "Fantasy Island" trap of saying, "Don't wish for anything to be different because, if your wish came true, it would make you unhappy。" A nice little book。I kind of skimmed through the second half because i had just read another book about time travel/alternate life timelines, etc。It narrowly misses falling into the "Fantasy Island" trap of saying, "Don't wish for anything to be different because, if your wish came true, it would make you unhappy。" 。。。more

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book。 I don't usually like time travel books but this one was different for me。 It is about the relationship of the protagonist Alice, with her divorced father。 They were always very close and now he is dying - he is an old man and has lived a full life。 The book is a beautifully written portrait of grief as one loses a loving, wonderful father。 I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book。 I don't usually like time travel books but this one was different for me。 It is about the relationship of the protagonist Alice, with her divorced father。 They were always very close and now he is dying - he is an old man and has lived a full life。 The book is a beautifully written portrait of grief as one loses a loving, wonderful father。 。。。more

Maybe that was the trick to life, to notice all the tiny moments in the day, when everything else fell away and for a split second (or maybe even a few seconds) you had no worries, only pleasure。 Only appreciation for what was right in front of you。

It's hard not to be overly critical of the time traveling trope。 I definitely went in curious about how this could be creatively done, and it hit the mark。 I was prepared to leave it unfinished had it echoed the '13 Going On 30' storyline。 I was pleasantly surprised with not only where the plot went, but how beautiful it was told。 This is a tender, beautiful, and emotional story about how there's never enough time。 The kind of story that makes you want to call the people you love, tell them you It's hard not to be overly critical of the time traveling trope。 I definitely went in curious about how this could be creatively done, and it hit the mark。 I was prepared to leave it unfinished had it echoed the '13 Going On 30' storyline。 I was pleasantly surprised with not only where the plot went, but how beautiful it was told。 This is a tender, beautiful, and emotional story about how there's never enough time。 The kind of story that makes you want to call the people you love, tell them you love them, and ask them to tell you the stories you've heard a million times, because it couldn't hurt to hear it a million and one。 I read a goodreads comment about the cat's age。 Yes, it's ridiculous。 It doesn't make sense。 It doesn't add up。 Try as you might to ignore it, every time the dang cat is mentioned you can't ignore the fact that in order for the timeline to work the cat has to be like 35 years old and it just。。。。。 I don't buy it。 But push through that questionable narrative and you've got a great novel on your hands。 4 stars 。。。more

Time travel with a twist - the day after her 40th birthday Alice, the daughter of a science fiction author, wakes up as her 16 year old self。

Time travel。 Partially interesting。

This is my second father/daughter book in a row。 This was an amazing read。The time travel to the 90s made me reminisce as well。 I would read it just for that alone。 I loved the characters, especially Leonard and Alice's best friend Sam。 The quality of the writing in This Time Tomorrow is exceptional as you explore how the choices you make influence your whole life。 This is a story of do-overs。 It’s a story of loving what you have but mostly a story to appreciate everything you have now。 This is my second father/daughter book in a row。 This was an amazing read。The time travel to the 90s made me reminisce as well。 I would read it just for that alone。 I loved the characters, especially Leonard and Alice's best friend Sam。 The quality of the writing in This Time Tomorrow is exceptional as you explore how the choices you make influence your whole life。 This is a story of do-overs。 It’s a story of loving what you have but mostly a story to appreciate everything you have now。 。。。more

I saw a twitter thread that said "If you like blank movie, you should read blank book。"The thread said if you like the movie 'About Time' you should read 'This Time Tomorrow。'I came in with high expectations, but was underwhelmed。 As a man whose father died prematurely, this book did not provoke the emotions I thought it would。 I still enjoyed the read, but felt a little disappointed。 I saw a twitter thread that said "If you like blank movie, you should read blank book。"The thread said if you like the movie 'About Time' you should read 'This Time Tomorrow。'I came in with high expectations, but was underwhelmed。 As a man whose father died prematurely, this book did not provoke the emotions I thought it would。 I still enjoyed the read, but felt a little disappointed。 。。。more

This Time Tomorrow is a sincere delight to read。 Wish we all had the chance to revisit our youth and take a moment to appreciate our parents with hindsight。 Well written, easy to read in the way that you don't want to finish。 Superb story! Heartwarming and heartbreaking。 It’s a story about the love between a parent and child。 It’s about growing up, growing older, the things you can change, the things you can’t change and learning to let go。 And then throw in a little time travel for fun。 Definitely some tears on my part。

Meh。 I got through it hoping that something interesting would happen, but it didn’t really work out that way。 People die - even in the multiverse or with time traveling abilities。 Alice isn’t happy with any of her other possible lives because she doesn’t have the elixir of life。 After many iterations, when she seems to realize that she can’t create perfection, she decides to interview her father and record it。 Again, she kind of missed the whole point of her life with her father。

Alice is turning 40 and she’s living a comfortable life, working at the private school she went to, no children and single。 Her father is sick and Alice questions how her life could have been if she changed things in her past, wondering if she had just settled。 Honestly the first half of the book was slow and a bit boring, but the second half was great。 I finished the second half of the book in about a day while the first few chapters really dragged and I found myself easily putting the book dow Alice is turning 40 and she’s living a comfortable life, working at the private school she went to, no children and single。 Her father is sick and Alice questions how her life could have been if she changed things in her past, wondering if she had just settled。 Honestly the first half of the book was slow and a bit boring, but the second half was great。 I finished the second half of the book in about a day while the first few chapters really dragged and I found myself easily putting the book down and not touching it for a few days。 It is so interesting how going back and changing one day and completely change life’s course。 Having a step mother, becoming a mother of two with your high school sweetheart, having dead beat relationships, etc。 Oh, also every time they mentioned Ursula, the cat, I was thinking the cat must be nearly 25 years old?! 。。。more

This was fine? I can’t put my finger on exactly why, but this didn’t really do anything for me。

Really loved it, what a wonderful book about the love between an adult child and their parent。 It made me cry, jarring some personal memories and tragedies。 I love the idea that there is no such thing as a happy or sad ending, it just depends on where you end the story。

A four star book but a five star read for me。 I loved this story。 I loved the relationship between Leonard and Alice。 It was, by far, the best part of the novel。 I loved the time traveling。 It was just a great read。 I needed one like this that I couldn't put down。 A four star book but a five star read for me。 I loved this story。 I loved the relationship between Leonard and Alice。 It was, by far, the best part of the novel。 I loved the time traveling。 It was just a great read。 I needed one like this that I couldn't put down。 。。。more
